Press release -
Double Success for the Pryce Brothers
Powys farmers David, Alan and Neil Pryce of Coed Mawr Farm, Llansantffraid have cause for celebration after being crowned champions for the second year in a row at the annual Müller Wiseman Milk Group Quality Awards.
Twenty farms out of twelve hundred farms qualified for the award, but it was Coed Mawr Farm who managed to beat off the competition. The three brothers collected their award from Graeme Jack, Group Corporate Communications Director of the Müller UK & Ireland Group at a ceremony on Wednesday 27th November.
This year the awards were divided into two categories based on production volumes to take account of the scale of the production systems in use on the farms across the Müller Wiseman Milk Group.
Coed Mawr Farm, who supply milk via Müller Wiseman to the Co-operative Group as members of the Co-operative Dairy Group, were the overall winners as well as topping the list from the below 2 million litres per annum category.
In the category for larger farms, Alan, Judith & Stephen Moore of AL Moore & Partners of Byley Hill Farm in Cheshire, topped the list. The Moore’s had previously been overall winners in 2011.
The awards are decided on the basis of milk quality performance across the year including scores for bactoscan, somatic cell counts, butterfat levels and as well as the farms carbon footprint score being factored in. Members only qualify for the award if they have a Johnes monitoring scheme in operation.
Ronald Kers, Chief Executive of Müller UK & Ireland Group, said: “The Müller Wiseman Milk Group has continued to grow over the past year, and competition has therefore increased amongst our members.
“The Milk Quality Awards are about recognising the quality and ambition that exists within the Müller Wiseman Milk Group. The commitment and dedication shown is impressive and inspiring to see.”
